August and September in Dubai

As the heat of the summer continues to beat down, Dubai’s August and September events are all about being in air-conditioned comfort. These are months for live opera, famous dance productions, and coming together to celebrate Eid Al Adha 2016. There’s also plenty for the whole family to enjoy across the two months.

Dubai Summer Surprises – Until 20th August across Dubai.

Dubai’s summer events calendar revolves around Summer Surprises. Over 6,000 stores are taking part and almost every mall in the city has special family events. You can’t miss it; visit any of the malls to find shopping bargains, children’s activities, and plenty of reasons not to stay home during the summer months. It makes it a lot easier to take the little ones around the shops during the holidays.

Modhesh World: Until 27th August,Dubai World Trade Centre (Halls 1 – 8).

Family entertainment comes with an innovative twist in the Dubai World Trade Centre, where exhibitions and events run from 10am until midnight. Expect funky characters, children’s entertainers, new video games, and lots of playing with other families and kids. Of course, this is Dubai and the Dubai World Trade Centre, so there’s always going to be a surprise. Last year saw over half a million visitors and at least the same are expected this year. It’s only AED 20 to enter for the day and children under three are free.

Dubai Sports World 2016:Thursday 2nd June to Saturday 27th August 2016, Dubai World Trade Centre.

The problem with sport is that the weather often ruins the outdoor fun. Dubai Sports World ensures everyone can keep playing. They’ve turning part of the World Trade Centre into a giant indoor sports playground. Football, basketball, volleyball, rugby, tennis, cricket, table tennis, badminton, a free gym…what more could anyone need? Oh, there’s also a huge indoor skate park and Against Gravity, an obstacle course for adults.

Eid in Dubai – Eid Al Ahda 2016: Thursday 8th September to Saturday 17th September, various locations across Dubai.

Eid is a time of sharing and the city is putting on a whole sequence of events to celebrate. These includes concerts like MTV Undivided and Nawali, plenty of shopping promotions, and a variety of public events that aim to bring the multicultural residents of Dubai together. While the event is mostly focused on local residents, Eid is inclusive of all and non-Muslims are encouraged to get involved with this beautiful time of celebration.

Gisella at Dubai Opera: Thursday 15th September, Dubai Opera

Internationally regarded as one of the great romantic ballets of all time, Giselle is the tale of a peasant girl who dies of a broken heart after discovering her love is betrothed to another. It’s been performed since 1841 and this edition sees The Russian State Ballet and Orchestra of Siberia grace Dubai Opera. If you’ve never been to a ballet before then this is a great way to start.

Cirque Du Soleil – Varekai: Friday 16th September to Saturday 24th September 2016, Dubai World Trade Centre

The world’s most famous acrobatic and artistic show is returning to Dubai, some three years after it wowed audiences. If you’ve seen Cirque Du Soleil before than you’ve probably already bought tickets to watch it again – it really is that good. The production returns with a concept – Varekai – which literally means wherever. Details about how that translates onto the stage are a little secretive, but expect lots of surprises throughout the show. Tickets are being sold by Tixbox.
