Take the off-beaten path- Visit Fujairah

Fujairah constitutes one of the seven emirates of UAE and is quite a popular destination for tourists world over. It enjoys a rich cultural tradition and has a recorded history of over 2,000 years. Fujairah possesses archaeological findings in the Arabian Gulf as the excavations show human presence in the region dating back to the Iron Age. Being the only emirate located at the eastern end of UAE, it enjoys proximity to the Gulf of Oman. The Hajar Mountains separates Fujairah from the remaining nation. The splendid variety of topographical variations helps absorb the local flavour the township of Fujairah. It is  home to many exotic species of fish. The coral reefs off the coast present divers and snorkelers the greatest underwater adventure. The clean shell covered beaches are an idyllic setting for sun worshippers seeking peace and relaxation. A modern city of UAE, Fujairah is a major tourist attraction and lets you discover all the possible things to do in Fujairah:

The oldest mosque in UAE is the Al Baidya Mosque. This mosque  dates back to the fifteenth century and is considered an accomplishment for the architecture in which it was designed. Also known as the Ottoman Mosque, this holy shrine holds a major significance in history.

The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is 100m high and can hold 30,000 worshippers. The outside facade alone is very “instagrammable”. As modern mosque in Fujairah, it boasts of six minarets and is one of the major landmarks due to its white-coloured facade.

A must-see building is the Fujairah Fort which was built in 1670. It is the oldest historical fort in UAE and is the only standing stone building along the coastline of Fujairah. Made up of rock, gravel, and clay amalgamated by a lime-based binder, the fort’s unique physical characteristics, location and vantage point makes it a tourist landmark.

About 250 years ago, the ruling family of Fujairah used the Al Hayl Castle as their headquarters as it played a strategic role in defence strategies. It was treated as a base to patrol and conduct surveillance. A two-level tower that still remains on the hill is reminiscent of an era when there were forts and hillsides.

To soak yourself with the local sights of the emirate, head to the mountainous village of Masafi and explore the unspoiled beauty of the small village around the Hajar Mountains. Famous for its bottled mineral water, the water is sourced from the natural spring flowing down from the mountains. A visit to the Friday market lets you know the gregariousness of the popular socializing ground where localities and visitors purchase local fresh produce from farmers, souvenirs, pots, rugs, and savour some great local food.

Apart from the above mentioned places, visiting the watchtower Al Bithnah Fort forms a photogenic place, trekking along the Khor Fakkan offers extraordinary sights, hiking up the Hajar Mountains, cycling over the scenic trails across the mountains, deep-sea diving, strolling on sandy beaches, snorkelling and scuba diving, and getting lost amidst the scenic wilderness of Wadi Wurayah National Park are some of the must-do activities that must be on your Fujairah tour package.
