World Art Dubai: 6th April to 9th April, Dubai World Trade Centre
There’s something wonderful about wandering through an art exhibition and having your attention grabbed by an unusual painting or sculpture. With World Art Dubai there’s no single style or paradigm. Artists from four continents present their work, creating a fusion of influence and creativity from across the planet. Some of it you probably won’t like. But there will always be something that takes your breath away. Expect to enjoy intimate access to paintings, prints, sculptures, and strange installations, including many from local artists. Seminars and workshops allow you to get fully involved with the experience.
Admission is AED 15 on the door.
Middle East Film and Comic Conference: 7th April to 9th April, Dubai World Trade Centre
Where can you find Spiderman getting cosy with Catwoman, or the Power Rangers standing alongside the latest gaming creations? The answer can only be the Middle East Film and Comic Con, a huge-scale event for fans to meet all the heroes found in magazines or on the big screen. Say hello to a few celebrities, see the costumes for yourself, and spend the day celebrating the best of pop culture around the world. There’s nothing quite like it, especially if you want to entertain the children for a day.
Discounted tickets are available through their website – www.mefcc.com/tickets/ – and more are available on the door.
Beach Polo Cup Dubai: Friday 1st April to Saturday 2nd April, Skydive Dubai
Polo players normally battle it out on the grass. But for two days the horses can be found galloping across the sand of Jumeirah Beach Residence besides Skydive Dubai. Expect a stylish audience watching the drama of the world’s best polo teams going head to head. Take a seaplane flight on either of these days and you’ll get a bird’s-eye view of the action, with the seaplane swooping over the beach. Or buy a ticket for intimate views and a chance to watch all the action from the sport of kings. Seats are atmospherically crowded around the arena, so you’re practically close enough to see the glisten of sweat on a horse’s shoulder or rider’s cheekbone. Then someone scores and the crowd erupts. To really get into the action, consider one of the VIP entertaining tables.
AED 95 on the day, or tickets available through their website – www.beachpolo.net/wp/?page_id=352
